Explore the experiences of Māori in Aotearoa during the global pandemic. For Māori it can be difficult to trust the government and its western systems, they have not favoured our people and are seen as the key driver to upholding the colonial oppression of indigenous people.  What may seem straightforward and 'scientific' to some is seen as a lie and a trap to others. Journey with whānau who have navigated through the highs and lows, and how they were able to make the brave decision of whether or not to vaccinate their tamariki (their children) against the virus.

Vaxxed or Not Vaxxed?

What side of the fence are you on?

NŌU TŌ RANGATIRATANGA
NŌKU TŌKU RANGATIRATANGA
KA HĀPAITIA Ō TĀTOU RANGATIRATANGA

TAIAPA is the Māori word for fence.

This collaborative piece between The Hori and Ngahere Communities was made to look at both sides of this vax kōrero.

The Hori asked some of their friends in the Ōtaki community who sit on both sides of the fence to come in and have a kōrero but also to build te taiapa together as an art installation.

There were tears and laughter and even though everyone had their different whakaaro/thoughts on the vax chat, we were able to come together to build something beautiful, as a community.

He hapori, he whānau kotahi tātou.

The video and poster art have been created to open the kōrero and allow whānau to be real about where they sit with the vax kaupapa.

They went to 260 Kura Kaupapa and Schools with Māori medium
